Vol. 241 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Urbanisation of Towns.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any town became urbanised in the last 40 years; if so, which and on what date; the population of such town at the date of urbanisation; the approximate area included in such urban council's area; and if he will give similar information in respect of town commissioners.

No town has become urbanised in the past 40 years. Tramore became a town for the purposes of the Towns (Improvement) Act, 1854, with effect from 1st December, 1948. The population of the town as at May, 1946, when the last census of population prior to Tramore adopting the Towns Improvement (Ireland) Act, 1854, was taken, was 3,018. The area included in the town was 1,647 acres.
