Vol. 241 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Fireworks.

16.

asked the Minister for Health if there are any records to show the number of accidents occurring to children as a result of playing with fireworks; if there is any law prohibiting the sale of fireworks to children under a certain age; if so, how it is enforced; and how many successful prosecutions have taken place in the last two years.

Statistics which would show the number of accidents occurring to children as a result of playing with fireworks are not collected in my Department. There is no Act or other statutory instrument which precludes the sale of fireworks to children specifically.

The general position in relation to fireworks is that they are not manufactured in this country and their import is prohibited except under licence issued by the Minister for Justice.
