Vol. 242 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Workers.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of how many social workers employed by local authorities his Department are paying the 50 per cent subsidy referred to by him in a reply of 4th November last.

The first appointments by local authorities of social workers to assist in the rehabilitation of itinerants were made only in the current year and no subsidy has as yet been paid towards their remuneration. I understand, however, that four social workers whose duties relate solely to or include this work, have been appointed so far and another post has been approved but has not yet been filled.

May I take it that no social workers have been appointed other than those concerned with the rehabilitation of intinerants?

That is all I know of.
