Vol. 242 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Atmospheric Pollution.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state with reference to his invitation to the public to express their opinions on draft regulations governing atmospheric pollution the number of views received by him; what decision he has taken on the request that reasonable domestic bonfires of garden refuse and such material be excluded from the scope of the regulations having regard to the refusal of Dublin Corporation to accept garden refuse; and when the regulations will be made.

Observations on the draft regulations for the control of atmospheric pollution have been received from 47 persons and bodies and observations are awaited from a number of others who have indicated that they intend to submit comments. I have made no decision as yet on the aspect of the regulations referred to by the Deputy and I cannot say at this stage when the regulations are likely to be made.

Has the Minister made any representations to Dublin Corporation regarding the refusal of the corporation to remove garden refuse? It would appear that this is a basic consideration to prohibiting people from otherwise disposing of garden refuse.

I have not.

Would the Minister consider doing that before making a prohibition?

I shall consider all aspects of the problem before the regulations are made.

Including that one?
