Vol. 242 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Industrial Grants.

76.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what grants are available to industrialists who establish industries in the industrial estates in Waterford, Shannon and Galway; and if similar grants will be made available to anyone who establishes an industry in the Cork area.

Grants are available under existing legislation in respect of these estates as follows—

Waterford—grants in respect of fixed assets up to a maximum of 50 per cent.

Galway—grants in respect of fixed assets, at the rates appropriate to undeveloped areas, up to a maximum of 66? per cent.

Factory premises may be rented at these estates by an industrialist at a subsidised rent related to the level of grant that would be allowed if the premises were built by the industrialist.

Shannon Industrial Estate — a grant of up to the full cost of building and up to half the cost of machinery is available. Where accommodation is rented, the rent may, in some circumstances, be at a subsidised rate.

In all the above cases grants are available for the training of workers.

With regard to the Cork area, grants towards the cost of fixed assets, including factory buildings, are available up to the rates mentioned at Waterford and Galway, depending on whether the particular area of Cork County is inside or outside the undeveloped areas.

The new legislation, which will be before the Dáil shortly, will deal with grant levels and subsidisation of rented factories.
