Under the scheme of building grants for secondary schools my Department may make payments covering the full cost of school building, 70 per cent as outright grant and 30 per cent by way of loan. The sum of £2,464,000 is being provided for this purpose in the current financial year and of this amount £1,815,450 has already been paid. Some 160 schools are getting grants this year.
At present there are 304 applications for building grants for secondary schools before my Department.
