Vol. 242 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department will provide an alternative supply of water to the people of Keshcarrigan, County Leitrim, as the pump installed when the group scheme was carried out has been out of order since last April and as this is a good tourist and angling area which has suffered severe loss from lack of water supply.

The source supplying this completed scheme became defective due to an accumulation of sediment in the well. Alternative sources to serve the scheme are being investigated by the group with the co-operation of my Department. When an acceptable source has been found the question of further grants to develop it will be considered. In the meantime a temporary water supply to serve the group has been provided by Leitrim County Council.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to give sanction for Tooreen and Aughamore group water scheme County Mayo.

The design of this scheme, to serve approximately 240 houses, was received in my Department on 3rd November and the design data were received on 12th November. These documents are being examined by my technical advisers. The question of sanction to the scheme does not arise at this stage.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government his reason for not giving sanction to Hollymount and Roundfort water supply scheme. County Mayo, in view of the fact that it was linked with Shrule on a regional basis.

As I stated in reply to Question No. 38 on 12th November, 1969, I hope to convey a decision on the preliminary proposals for the Hollymount/Roundfort water supply scheme shortly. The Shrule scheme was accorded special priority at the express request of the local authority.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the position in regard to the proposed sewerage scheme at Tower, Blarney, County Cork.

Proposals for a sewerage scheme to serve Tower, Blarney, were recently submitted to my Department and are under consideration. The local authority have not indicated what priority they wish to accord this scheme.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will provide money for the drainage of rivers that are now not considered under the arterial drainage scheme and are too costly to have drained under the local improvement scheme.

I have no funds at my disposal out of which to provide money for schemes of the type mentioned by the Deputy.
