Vol. 242 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Applicant.

35.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (name supplied) has been refused an old age pension.

The person referred to in the question has not been refused an old age pension. He was awarded a pension of 7/6d as from 18th March, 1965 when he reached 70 years of age. As a result of the general increases in pension since then the rate now payable to him is 35/- per week. The rate of pension payable is that applicable to a person whose means exceed £130 15s per annum and do not exceed £143 15s.

In February last the pensioner raised a question for an increase in pension on the grounds that he had transferred his holding and his means had consequently decreased. It was found on investigation that although he signed a deed of transfer in respect of the holding in 1965 the deed had not been stamped or registered. On the 13th August an appeals officer decided that there were no grounds for altering the rate of pension.
