asked the Minister for External Affairs if there is a register kept of the birth of children abroad to Irish nationals who wish to have their children registered as Irish citizens.

In accordance with section 27 of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956 the birth outside Ireland of a person deriving citizenship through a father or mother born outside Ireland may be registered, in accordance with the foreign births regulations, either in a foreign births entry book which is kept in every Irish diplomatic mission and consular office abroad, or in the foreign births register in the Department of External Affairs, at the option of the person registering the birth.
