Vol. 242 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Press Photographers' Facilities at Airport.

55.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if, in order to avoid any possible misunderstanding in future in relation to the admittance of press photographers to Dublin Airport, he will arrange that passes be issued to bona fide press photographers which will be recognised by the airport authorities.

Under existing arrangements of which the press are aware facilities for press photographers and reporters are provided by the airport duty officers. Pressmen already carry a press card and an additional identity document is not required. Because of safety and security factors access to the apron and other restricted parts of the airport must be arranged through the duty officer.

Is the Minister aware that, despite assurances given by the Minister for Transport and Power and Aer Rianta, those pressmen are still experiencing difficulty and would it be possible for him to have some simple card issued similar to their press card which could be withdrawn in the event of it being abused?

I understand that the matter has been the subject of discussion between the National Union of Journalists and Aer Rianta and, as far as I know, there is an understanding now as to the procedure.
