I have explained to the House on a number of occasions that the establishment and location of a smelter are entirely matters for private enterprise. A smelter company, registered here almost a year ago, are examining the findings of a feasibility study on the question of setting up a smelter in this country, and pending their decision I am not in a position to say where a smelter may be located. I am aware that the Shannon estuary was among a number of sites which were investigated by the company.
