Vol. 242 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Road.

44.

Mr. Barry

asked the Minister for Local Government when the special road grant, consequent on the closure of the Mallow-Waterford rail line, to improve the highly dangerous road from Mallow and Fermoy to Lismore will be paid.

Applications for special grants for the improvement of this road have been the subject of correspondence with the local authorities and are being examined.

Does the Minister appreciate fully that they must have been pretty well examined over the past three years? Will the Minister now say when he proposes to pay them?

When the examination has been completed.

Will the Minister say how long that is likely to take? Three years have been spent on it already.

I do not agree that it has taken three years. It will take some time yet before it will be completed.

Would the Minister tell us the date on which the Mallow-Waterford line was closed?

I have not yet had adequate details from the councils concerned as to the basis of the application and of the work involved. Until I get that information a decision cannot be taken.

Was not a deputation received in the Department?

A decision cannot be taken until I get the information.
