Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Television Reception.

139.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make an effort to improve television reception in west Kerry as many villages are denied reception and cannot receive any picture whatsoever.

The improvement of reception of Radio Telefís Éireann's programmes is primarily a matter for the authority. I understand that while reception is generally satisfactory in west Kerry there are certain small mountainous areas there where reception is not of an acceptable standard. I also understand that alterations to the Cahirciveen transposer station which are planned to be made within a matter of months should result in a general improvement in reception in many of these areas.

Surely the Minister is aware that Telefís Éireann promised the people of west Kerry a booster station in 1966? Is the Minister now saying that this station will not be erected? There are several villages in west Kerry where they can get no picture whatsoever.

I have just said that I understand that alterations to the Cahirciveen transposer station which are planned to be made within a matter of months should result in a general improvement in reception in many of these areas.
