Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Building Inspectors.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government why Dublin Corporation have advertised for permanent inspectors for their dangerous building section instead of promoting some of the inspectors who have been employed in a temporary capacity in that Department for a number of years.

The filling of these and similar offices is a matter for each local authority subect to compliance with the relevant regulations. These regulations, which are of long standing, provide that, following public advertisement, selections for appointment shall be made by competition open to all persons who apply and who have the necessary qualifications. Local authorities may, if they consider there are good reasons for doing so, seek my sanction for a departure from these regulations to enable some other method of selection to be used. No such application, however, has been received in my Department in relation to the office of building inspector, Dublin Corporation.
