Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Air Disaster Claims.

47.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if, having regard to the possibility that claims arising out of the death of passengers on the Aer Lingus Viscount plane which crashed on a flight from Cork to London in 1968 may be statute barred by 23rd March, 1970, he will expedite publication of the findings of the enquiry into the disaster; and if he can state the date or approximate date on which such findings will be published.

I am anxious that the report on this accident should be published as soon as practicable. The inspector of accidents is endeavouring to expedite the conclusion of the technical investigations and tests which are essential preliminaries to his reaching his findings as to the probable cause or causes of the accident. For these reasons he is at present unable to make a firm estimate of the date by which he will have concluded his report, but I am making every effort to have this report within the next three months.
