Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Car Ferry Capacity.

48.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total number of cars that can be brought to Ireland by car ferry in the five months commencing 1st May, 1970.

During the period 1st May-30th September, 1969 capacity inwards to the State on car ferries was 181,500 cars while actual cars carried numbered almost 98,000. Car ferry route schedules for the summer of 1970 have yet to be completed so it is not possible at this stage to provide figures for car capacity in May-September next. I expect, however, that there will be a continuing increase in capacity.

Could the Minister say, if he has the information, how those figures for last year are broken down between the various ports?

I have not itemised figures for the different ports but if the Deputy wishes I could, perhaps, send them to him.
