Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dumping of Fertilisers.

54.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there is an anti-dumping order in force against the dumping of nitrogenous or other fertilisers here; and, if so, the effect of such order or orders.

There is no duty in force against imports of nitrogenous fertilisers but there is a normal protective duty of 16 per cent in force against imports of compound fertilisers of other than UK origin.

Following examination of a complaint of dumping of certain compound fertiliser of West German origin a duty of £6 a ton was imposed under the Imposition of Duties (No. 179) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1969, on compound fertilisers consigned from, or made wholly or partly, in West Germany. Where, however, it can be shown that the imports of these fertilisers are either not dumped or that the margin of dumping is less than £6, licences may be granted to the importers remitting this duty of £6 a ton in whole or in part.
