Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - University Physiotherapy Course.

69.

asked the Minister for Education on what grounds the university course in physiotherapy is not regarded as equivalent to a degree course for the purposes of a university grant, in view of the fact that like the B.A., B.Comm. day course and the B.Sc. General, it is a three-year course taken in a university and the fact that the diploma course at the National College of Art is regarded as equivalent to a degree course for the purposes of this grant.

The course for the diploma in physiotherapy is conducted under the aegis of the universities. It would be a matter for them to raise it to the status of a degree course if they so wished. I have no function in regard to it.

The diploma course in the National College of Art has no connection with a university and must be assessed independently.
