146.

asked the Minister for Education what are the proven advantages of amalgamation of primary schools when compared with one-and two-teacher schools.

I have placed a copy of a memorandum on this matter in the Library of the Dáil and I would refer the Deputy to it.

147.

asked the Minister for Education what role consultation with parents whose children attend schools about to be amalgamated plays in the Government's policy of amalgamation.

The purpose of such consultation is to convey to parents the educational advantages for their children involved in making larger school units available for them.
