Vol. 243 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Statistics.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of private housing the annual contribution made over the past decade from public moneys under the following headlines: (a) State grants, (b) local authority grants, (c) local authority loans and (d) State bodies.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of local authority housing over the past decade the annual capital expenditure showing the amounts provided in each year from (a) Government sources, (b) local authority sources and (c) other sources where appropriate.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 14 and 15 together.

I would refer the Deputy to table 7 and appendix 1 of the White Paper, Housing in the Seventies, which I issued last June. Practically all the capital expenditure on local authority housing in the past decade has been financed by issues from the Local Loans Fund.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of private housing over the past decade the estimated annual capital contribution from (a) building Societies, (b) assurance companies and (c) banks and other private and personal sources.

Table 8 of the White Paper, Housing in the Seventies, which I issued last June, Contains details of the sources of capital for private housing in 1967/68, in so far as they are known. Trends in the amounts of house-purchase finance provided in each year since 1964/65 by building societies, assurance companies and local authorities are set out in a statement issued each quarter by my Department. I am arranging to have a copy of the most recent statement sent to the Deputy. Similar information for the years prior to 1964/65 or for lending by banks and other sources is not available in my Department.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the total rent and rates on housing collected by local authorities annually over the past decade; and the total amount collected on housing each year by (a) county councils and (b) urban authorities.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.
