Vol. 243 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Industry.

70.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce where the proposed new major industry, which was recently announced, is going to be sited in County Mayo.

I am not yet in a position to make an announcement on this matter.

Is the Minister aware that a statement was made by the Minister for Lands two weeks ago in Ballina that a major industry was about to be announced for County Mayo in the near future? I want to know and the people in my county and particularly in my constituency want to know where it will be sited? Is the Minister aware that statement was made?

I am aware of some references that have been made to this industry. I was in some difficulty in answering the Deputy's question because it happens that more than one industry is going into that area. I think I know the one to which reference has been made. I am not at present in a position to make any announcement about it.

Would the Minister not think that the proper place to announce new industries is in this Chamber?

That is a separate question.

A Deputy

It will have to go to the Fianna Fáil Cumann.

That is not true. I am tired of hearing that. At what stage of the procedure does the Deputy suggest what he wants should be done?

I am suggesting that since this House votes the money we should be afforded the courtesy of being informed about a new industry first.

If the Deputy would examine the procedure of the House a little more he might find that what he is saying would not comply with the procedure as laid down by the House.

The matter does not arise.
