Vol. 243 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as follows: Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 16 and in No. 16 Vote 41.

Would the Taoiseach be able to tell us when the terms of the motion on the proposed inquiry will be published?

The motion will be ready for today.

Will it be released today?

Is it proposed to take it on Tuesday then?

Yes, some time on Tuesday.

A straight motion?

Yes. We will try to get it to the Seanad on Wednesday.

I gather Wednesday and Thursday will be given over to the Taoiseach's estimate which will also be the Adjournment debate. Is it proposed to have any other business discussed in the Dáil on Tuesday?

Yes, I think the Industrial Development Bill will be taken on Tuesday, too.

The point is, we regard this as a pretty important motion and it seems to me that there will be very little time to discuss this if it is the intention to have it for the Seanad on Wednesday.

As far as I know motions of this nature were never discussed at any length. I do not know what the subject matter of the debate would be.

I do not want to be contentious now but ——

This is a prelude to a judicial inquiry.

We would be concerned with the terms of reference.

The terms of reference will be extremely important in that we want included the general question of money lending. That will be contentious and I do not think the motion should just come before the House for assent or dissent without discussion.

I suppose the best thing to do would be to see the motion and then to decide the amount of time that is necessary.

This is the last day to have the motion in for discussion on Tuesday.

The fault is not ours.

It may be necessary to put down an amendment.

We could not have it any sooner. There are a lot of things to be decided.

Will there be reasonable time to discuss it?

Yes, I think the terms of reference will be wide enough to satisfy most Deputies.

We are to have Transport and Power today. I do not think it will finish. What is it proposed to have on Tuesday?

The Industrial Development Bill, I said.

That will take a few hours, too.

We can even do a bit on Wednesday. I do not mind.

And meet the following week?

That would be Christmas Eve. Wait until you see the resolution.

A good idea.
