Vol. 243 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drug Traffic.

68.

asked the Minister for Justice if the Gardaí have any evidence to back the statement referred to recently by the senior lecturer in the College of Pharmacy, Dublin, that Cork was getting the reputation of becoming the drug capital of the country, mainly through smuggling.

May I again repeat that the Minister primarily concerned with the problems of drug abuse is the Minister for Health. Accordingly, any useful information which the Garda Síochána may have from time to time in relation to drug abuse, either in Cork or elsewhere, will be supplied to the Department of Health, either directly or through the working party set up by the Minister for Health and on which the Garda are represented. In these circumstances, I would not be prepared to make any comment on the statement mentioned in the question.

Is the Minister demoted or is he another stage nearer to Heaven? He is up a step higher.

I did not catch the leprechaun.
