Vol. 243 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Courts.

24.

asked the Minister for Justice if in the proposed review of the circuit and district court jurisdiction he will arrange for the establishment of a circuit court in Dún Laoghaire and a separate district court in Dún Laoghaire.

As the Deputy is aware, the unanimous recommendations of the committee on court practice and procedure in regard to the re-organisation of the district court in the city and county of Dublin do not favour the establishment of a district court with full jurisdiction at Dún Laoghaire. Instead weighty arguments are advanced by the committee in support of the retention of the present arrangements as being best suited to the efficient and economical functioning of the district court. The committee's recommendations were reached after a full consideration of the representations made by the Dún Laoghaire Corporation and chamber of commerce.

Before coming to a final decision on this matter, I intend to meet representatives of the Dún Laoghaire Corporation fairly soon to hear any further representations they may wish to make.

I am leaving over consideration of the question of circuit court sittings at Dún Laoghaire until I have received the recommendations of the committee on court practice and procedure who are at present examining the organisation of the circuit court throughout the country.
