Vol. 243 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions, Oral Answers. - First Line Reserve.

91.

asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of the severe financial losses suffered by the families of persons serving in the first line reserves of the Defence Forces who were previously in employment in private industry, he will consider paying to these men a gratuity in order to alleviate any family suffering which may have been occasioned by these men so serving their country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am having this question specially examined at present in relation to the members generally of the first line reserve who answered the call-out order in August last.

Is there any proposal to allow these men to return to normal life?

No decision has been made in that respect yet.

Would the Minister agree that a decision should be made pretty soon?

All factors affecting this question are being constantly borne in mind.
