Vol. 243 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions, Oral Answers. - County Cork Army Lands.

94.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that portion of the lands attached to Dun Uí Mhurchu, Ballincollig, County Cork was ploughed by unauthorised persons; and that these lands are now an eyesore, being overgrown with weeds; and if he will take steps to have these lands restored to their former state at no expense to the taxpayer.

The grazing licensee for the 1969 season of Lot 6, 43¼ acres, and Lot 9, nine acres, of the lands at the Military Barracks, Ballincollig, County Cork, had three acres of Lot 6 and the entire of Lot 9 ploughed early in March, 1969. This was an unauthorised use of the lands, and the licensee's solicitors were requested on 14th March, 1969 to arrange that their client would desist from further ploughing or tillage operations and restore to pasture the areas already ploughed.

The ploughed areas have not been restored to pasture by the licensee and are now affected by a growth of weeds.

The chief State solicitor has been asked to advise as to the action to be taken arising from the breach of the relevant grazing licences.
