Vol. 243 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions, Oral Answers. - County Cork Sub-Post Office.

97.

asked the Minister for Post and Telegraphs the reasons for closing the sub-post office at Ballyfeard, County Cork; if it is to be reopened; and, if not, if he will consider the provision of a letter box and a telephone kiosk for the residents in the area.

The sub-post office at Ballyfeard has been closed temporarily because the sub-postmistress, who had tendered her resignation in August last, was unable because of health to carry it on. No applications were received in response to the advertisement of the vacancy, and the question of permanent closure is under consideration. Arrangements have been made to provide a letter box, but I regret that a telephone kiosk is not warranted. However, special attention would be given to a request from a resident or group of residents for a rented coinbox telephone in Ballyfeard.
