Vol. 244 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo County Hospital.

2.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement concerning the alleged outbreak of infection in Sligo County Hospital.

A number of cases of Salmonellosis, i.e. an infection of the gastro intestinal tract, have been notified from Sligo County Hospital over the past five months. The infections have occurred sporadically. The most rigorous steps have been taken to eliminate any possible source of infection within the hospital and admissions have been confined to urgent conditions. The continued occurrence of this infection in the Sligo area is a matter of some concern. I am, however, satisfied that the Health Authority's Chief Medical Officer and his staff are making every effort to eliminate the infection.
