asked the Minister for Local Government whether any consultations have taken place with insurance companies in an attempt to seek a minimum standard of structural fire resistance for single storey buildings.

The answer is "No".

I appreciate the Minister is short of voice but perhaps I could tempt him to say more than "No". Does the Minister consider the question called for consultation with the insurance companies?

Does the Minister see a situation arising in the future which would call for consultation and discussion with the insurance companies?

No. All plans for new buildings are referred to the local authority fire officer for recommendations as to whether they should be allowed or whether conditions should be imposed in the granting of permission.

Is the Minister aware that consultations have taken place in other countries between the central authority and the insurance companies and does the Minister, in fact, see the necessity for such consultation?

I said "No". There has been no specific consultation in an attempt to seek a minimum standard of structural fire resistance nor is there any need for it.

Would the Minister agree that again and again we get more information when the Minister is tempted beyond saying "No"? Now, at least, we have learned that discussions have taken place.
