Vol. 244 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Travel Scheme.

40.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that old age pensioners using the Dublin city and county bus service between the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and between the hours of 4.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on Monday to Friday have to pay the required interstage fare; and if he will arrange for their transport free of charge in view of the small number of old age pensioners using the service between the times mentioned and the consequent financial hardship to them.

The hours mentioned by the Deputy cover the week-day peak travel periods on city bus services during which spare seating capacity is not available. I regret, therefore, that the free travel scheme for old age pensioners cannot be extended to include these hours.
