Vol. 244 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Medical Officers.

15.

asked the Minister for Health if in areas where there is only one doctor available he will appoint a full time medical officer to cover a whole county, so that the medical officers may be enabled to have a period of off duty.

The terms of the time-off scheme for part-time medical officers which has been brought into operation recently recognise that there may be local difficulties in finding substitute medical officers. The scheme, therefore, provides that time-off can be allowed to accumulate for up to three months until a substitute medical officer can be obtained. The appointment of substitutes is, of course, primarily a matter for the individual health authorities.
