Vol. 244 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Disabled Persons.

7.

andMr. Cowen asked the Minister for Health the number of disabled persons who are awaiting admission to an institution in (a) Offaly and (b) Laois.

It is presumed that the Deputies are referring to physically disabled persons. There is no waiting list for such persons in Laois, and in Offaly there is only one person on the waiting list. My Department has been for some time endeavouring to procure suitable institutional accommodation for this person alternative to the accommodation in which she is at present but without success so far. I hope, however, that it will be possible to obtain the desired accommodation at a fairly early date.

Will the Minister say if the people he describes as being disabled included aged people or is there a waiting list for them?

"Physically disabled persons" is what I have here.

Are the physically disabled persons referred to, disabled because of age or are they awaiting treatment because of injury?

I do not think I have an exact description of these people beyond "physically disabled".

It is very misleading if the Minister has not particulars of what exactly is being sought.
