Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Post Office.

139.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a new post office will be provided for central Dún Laoghaire; and the proposed site for this office.

There are no plans for the provision of a new post office in central Dún Laoghaire. It is proposed however to erect a new district sorting office to serve the area on a site near the junction of Sallynoggin and Upper Glenageary roads.

Would the Minister consider having some review of the current public facilities in the public office in the centre of Dún Laoghaire in view of the tremendous growth in tourist traffic, the growth in population locally and in postal services generally and in view of the fact that only four clerks are available for the public and that the office is quite unsuitable and quite congested? There have been many complaints locally not of the staff but of the facilities.

I appreciate this. I mentioned in my reply a new district sorting office. When this is provided, it will enable us to improve the facilities in the general office for the benefit of the public and staff.
