Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Housing Needs.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses needed to satisfy demand in Cork Borough at the latest date for which figures are available.

In their statutory assessment of housing needs, made in October, 1967, Cork Corporation estimated that a total of 3,775 dwellings, including both local authority and private dwellings, would be required to meet the housing needs of their administrative area for the period ending 31st March, 1971. By 31st January last, approximately 1,600 dwellings had been provided to meet these needs; over 1,500 dwellings were under construction; work was ready to be started on over 700 more local authority dwellings; and sites had been or were being acquired by the corporation for an additional 4,700 dwellings.
