Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Liquor Duties.

40.

asked the Minister for Finance the anticipated net receipts of duty on (a) alcoholic liquor and (b) non-alcoholic beverages for 1969-70; and the corresponding figures for the year 1962-63.

The yields of (a) and (b) in 1962-3 were £20.27 million and £0.28 million respectively. Last December it was estimated that spirits, beer and wine are likely to bring in some £52 million in the current financial year; non-alcoholic beverages should yield about £1 million. The rate of inflow of tax revenue in the final quarter of the financial year is normally subject to a considerable degree of fluctuation and in view of this I do not think that it would serve a useful purpose to attempt a precise estimate of the amount that the duties concerned will yield up to 31st March, 1970.
