Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commercial Road Vehicles.

45.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a used commercial road vehicle (details supplied) was imported as a "knocked-down" vehicle although the complete cab was still mounted on the chassis frame; whether he has already received a complaint about this vehicle; and whether such complaint was found to be justified.

A complaint regarding the importation of the vehicle referred to in the question was recently received by the Revenue Commissioners and is being investigated by them. As their inquiries in the matter have not been completed I cannot say whether the complaint was justified or not.

46.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will investigate the importation, particularly through Monaghan, of used commercial road vehicles in "knocked-down" condition to ensure that the regulations are being strictly enforced.

A complaint recently received regarding the importation of a "knocked-down" vehicle is under investigation. In the meantime customs officers generally are being reminded of the conditions as to the degree of disassembly necessary to enable motor vehicles to qualify as "knocked-down" for the purposes of duty.
