Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Rural Electrification.

82.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the ESB propose to recanvass rural pockets of north-west Donegal; and if, in the event of such canvass being a success, no special service charges will be assessed on successful applicants.

I am informed by the ESB that the position with regard to recanvassing under the planned post-development in north-west Donegal is that the board's Carrigart rural area has been recanvassed and is awaiting development. The following areas remain to be recanvassed—Greeslough, Dunfanaghy, Falcarragh, Gortahork, Gweedore, Rosses, Dungloe and Derrydruel. It is hoped to have this programme of recanvassing completed in the order shown in two to three years.

It is not possible to say what special service charges may be necessary to quote individual householders in these areas as such terms depend entirely on the costs ruling at the time of extending supply. In mid-1968, of course, the Government arranged for substantial reductions in the level of special service charges payable by existing and future consumers.
