asked the Minister for Education the amount and basis of the grants for 1970 for national schools' heating paid by his Department to school managers; if he is satisfied that such grants are adequate; and if he receives a detailed return for such expenditure.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Heating Grants.
The grants payable towards the cost of heating and cleaning national schools are set out in a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
It is estimated that the total amount which will be paid in respect of heating and cleaning grants in the current financial year will be £380,000. No breakdown of this figure as between heating and cleaning is made. The grants are not intended to cover the total expenditure involved but to supplement the amounts provided from local sources. I am satisfied that the present arrangement is satisfactory.
