Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Psychiatric and Psychological Services.

113.

asked the Minister for Education what provisions have been or are to be made for psychiatric and psychological services to be made available to each reformatory and place of detention as recommended by the Commission of Inquiry on Mental Illness.

It is a matter for the conductors of individual reformatory and industrial schools to use their judgment to determine whether in particular cases the services of a psychiatrist and/or a psychologist should be sought. Many of the schools are visited regularly by such specialists. I might add that the whole reformatory and industrial school system has been examined by a committee the report of which I expect to have in the very near future. I have no doubt but that the question of the provision of such services will be dealt with adequately in that report.
