Vol. 244 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Playing Fields.

49.

asked the Minister for Finance the situation in regard to the playing fields in the Mobhi Road area, Dublin; and whether he will make these available to Na Fianna Club of Mobhi Road.

I presume that the question refers to the field on the north side of the former Coláiste Caoimhín building at Mobhi Road. That field has been let, since 1963, to Na Fianna Hurling and Football Club for sports purposes.

Would the Minister consider giving them a 21 year lease of the field?

The Deputy may not be aware of it but negotiations have been going on with this club about this field for some time and they have not yet been finalised.

Could the Minister say at what stage they are at present?

I should like to assure the Deputy that Na Fianna are very dear to my heart.

Are they close to getting what they want?

We have endeavoured to facilitate them so far.

Is the House not entitled to be supplied with some information so that we shall know what the position is in regard to this field at present?

Has the Deputy not enough to do to look after his own little parish?

I shall look after my own little parish and the remainder of Laois-Offaly as well, with all due respect to the Minister.

This is a very valuable piece of land and a very important educational establishment in Dublin wishes to secure a site there for the erection of a school. We are endeavouring at present to accommodate the school and Na Fianna reasonably. Both institutions are very dear to my heart and I am endeavouring to do the best I can for both of them.

May I take it that the Minister will give very favourable consideration to my representations on behalf of Na Fianna club?

They know that. They did not have to ask the Deputy.

I think the best thing the Deputy could do would be to withdraw completely from this situation and leave it to ourselves.
