Vol. 246 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Garda Station.

28.

asked the Minister for Justice when it is proposed to carry out the alteration to Lusk Garda station, County Dublin.

I am not in a position to make any statement with regard to the execution of works at Lusk Garda station until the research and planning body in the Garda Síochána have reported in relation to the redistribution of the force. I hope to have the commissioner's recommendations, based on the report, in the near future.

Is the Minister aware that in this particular Garda station the sergeant, his wife and his four children live in a room which measures 12' x 14'? Surely in these circumstances something should be done about it? I have been told, in reply to this question, on two previous occasions in this House that the matter was being investigated and that it would be going for tender. I would ask the Minister to give this serious consideration in view of the fact that this sergeant is contemplating leaving the force because of his accommodation.

Another tenement.

The question of repairs to the station would be a matter for the Office of Public Works and not for me.

Will the Minister complain about this to the Office of Public Works?

I will, certainly.
