Vol. 247 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney Hospital Patients.

8.

asked the Minister for Health the present position regarding the proposal to pay some allowance to patients in St. Columbanus Home and St. Finian's Hospital, Killarney, County Kerry, who have no income whatsoever.

I have not received the proposal referred to by the Deputy but I understand that the health authority is at present considering the matter.

9.

asked the Minister for Health whether he will allow health authorities and county councils to refund more than £1 per week to patients in St. Columbanus Home, Killarney, County Kerry and to those in St. Finian's Hospital, Killarney, out of their old age pensions and social welfare disability benefits.

Health authorities are not restricted to allowing £1 a week only in the cases referred to by the Deputy. They may allow more than this, if they so wish. It is a matter for determination by the health authority having regard to the patient's circumstances in any particular case.
