Vol. 247 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Airport Road.

92.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take special measures to expedite as a matter of the utmost urgency the reconstruction of the new Dublin County road to Dublin Airport.

I take it that the question refers to the Dublin/Belfast road in County Dublin. The execution of road works in Dublin county is a matter for Dublin County Council and no new proposals have been submitted by the council to my Department since the reply to a similar question on 2nd December, 1969.

In view of the chaotic condition of this main road does the Minister not think it is about time he exercised the imagination of his Department on this matter? As a new Minister, perhaps he may show more concern than his predecessor in relation to this road in north county Dublin. It is the main road to Dublin Airport, the largest airport in the county, but the road is in a shambles.

The county council have many proposals, as was indicated in a reply to Deputy Foley on the 2nd December, in relation to the further improvement of this road. We are all aware that these improvements are necessary.

A lot of artillery is being carried on that road so perhaps the Minister would consider the matter?

In reply to Deputy Desmond, I shall give consideration to this matter.

A very good job has been done on roads north of the airport but nothing has been done so far to those south of it.
