Vol. 247 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Industrial Site.

101.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding a proposal for the servicing and development of an industrial site submitted by Ballina Urban District Council to his Department on 23rd January, 1970; and if he will take the necessary steps to expedite a decision on this very urgent matter.

Technical aspects of this proposal are still under examination but I hope to be in a position to convey a decision to the council in the fairly near future.

Do I take it that the Minister will give special attention to this application in view of the fact that for a long number of years Ballina has been struggling to try to have an industry established there and in view of the fact that in recent times the local urban council have made every effort to have a suitable site provided for would-be industrialists? Do I take it that the Minister will give this application special attention particularly as Ballina is located in the West of Ireland and it would be of great benefit to County Mayo generally and to Ballina in particular?

I assure Deputy O'Hara that I would like to commend the Ballina Urban District Council on this matter. I can assure the Deputy that I will give this matter every consideration in my Department.
