Vol. 247 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closure of Meath Road.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a public road at Ardagh, Barley Hill, Kingscourt, County Meath, the closing of which was approved by a majority vote of Meath County Council and which question is at present before his Department, has, in fact, been closed since the 29th May, 1970; and if he will give an early decision on the matter and ensure that the road is kept open as there are a number of local farmers who use this road to get to their farms.

I have been informed by Meath County Council that this road suffered some damage recently owing to blasting operations being carried out in the vicinity. In order to effect repairs the road was temporarily closed. I understand it was reopened to the public on the 5th of this month.

With regard to the proposal by the council for the extinguishment of the public right of way over portion of this road which is before me for approval, I hope to arrange a public local inquiry into the matter in the near future.
