Vol. 247 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carrick-on-Suir Unemployment.

30.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the large number of unemployed in Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the employment position in Carrick-on-Suir and of the need for further industries there and in other towns. The Government are providing generous incentives to industrialists to promote increased industrial development in all areas. It is for industrialists themselves to take advantage of these facilities and for local interests to encourage private enterprise to set up industries in their own areas.

Is the Minister aware that this is one of the most socially depressed towns in South Tipperary, and is he further aware that a strike took place in a factory there early this week and have any steps been taken?

Is he further aware that this is due to the Fianna Fáil Government?

I am not aware of the fact that a strike has taken place.

The Deputy will be sacked for putting down that question.

I am certainly not aware of the fact that the strike is the responsibility of the Fianna Fáil Party. If we had a Coalition Government there would be no industry and therefore no strikes.

What sort of a Government have you at the moment?

A coalition of gun-runners.

(Interruptions.)

Question No. 31.

They said "back Jack" and now they are all trying to "sack Jack". A coalition of gun-runners and law breakers.

(Interruptions.)

Do not dignify them with the name "coalition".

Deputy L'Estrange can blow as hot or cold as he likes.

They did not get the murderers of Garda Fallon. They condone murder in the country. Deputy Davern will be accused of unparalleled treachery for daring to ask that question.

Order. Question No. 31.
