Vol. 247 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Industrial Grants.

37.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what grant is available from the small industries section of his Department to a firm (name supplied) towards the establishment of the engineering and manufacturing industry in Macroom, County Cork.

Grants under the Small Industries Programme are administered by the Industrial Development Authority, which is an autonomous body.

I understand from the authority that they were unable to provide grant assistance under the Small Industries Programme but that they have approved a re-equipment grant to the promoter and this has been accepted by him.

38.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if grants were paid or any state assistance and, if so, how much to a firm (name supplied) for the erection of a factory at Clonmoyle, Coachford, County Cork.

The published reports of An Foras Tionscal indicate that £1,960 has been paid in the case in question out of an adaptation grant of £15,250 approved.

Could the Minister inform me how it is that his predecessor or himself on certain occasions has found it impossible to answer such questions in relation to individual firms and that he now finds it possible to do so? Is this a precedent for the future? Will we now be able to ask a question in relation to an individual firm and get an answer?

If it is already in the published reports of An Foras Tionscal.

And if it is not the Minister will not answer?

That is the point.

Even if payment has been made?

If the matter is available through published reports, there is no reason why information cannot be got.
