Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Needs.

97.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he can give the present overcrowding figures in Dublin housing; the number of substandard dwellings; and whether he intends to initiate any survey of housing needs in the city.

In their statutory assessment of housing needs under the Housing Act, 1966, dated 1st July, 1967, Dublin Corporation estimated that there was then an accumulated need for corporation dwellings for 2,786 families living in statutorily overcrowded conditions; for 3,262 families living in unfit dwellings incapable of economic repair, and for 161 families living in structurally dangerous dwellings, or in dwellings condemned under previous Housing Acts. This assessment was in respect of the period up to 31st March, 1971. The corporation will be required to carry out a further assessment of housing needs in respect of the five-year period commencing on 1st April, 1971.
