Vol. 247 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Fire Fighting Services.

110.

asked the Minister for Local Government the requirements which have been notified in order to improve the fire-fighting services at Dún Laoghaire; and when these changes will be made.

The main recommendations made for the improvement of the fire service in Dún Laoghaire were:

(1) the appointment of a fire prevention officer,

(2) the recruitment of seven extra firemen,

(3) the provision of a new fire appliance, and

(4) the marking of fire hydrants.

I understand that the post of fire prevention officer has been advertised through the Local Appointments Commission. Six extra firemen have already been employed and the seventh is expected to be recruited shortly. A specification for the new fire appliance is in course of preparation and all fire hydrants in the borough have been suitably marked.
