Vol. 247 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Water Scheme.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need for the extension of the water supply system at Belass, Foxford, County Mayo; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this situation.

The extension of the Belass water supply for which approval was sought from my Department has, I understand, now been completed by the local authority. No further proposals in the matter are before my Department.

Is the Minister aware that when the extension was provided for some time ago quite a number of new houses in the Belass area were left without water because of the inadequacy of money? If a further proposal comes up from Mayo County Council for the extension of the water supply to the tenants who have not got this amenity already, may I take it that he will give it early sanction?

The Deputy will appreciate that there are no proposals before my Department for an extension at the moment. We will deal with any future applications for the area which come before us from Mayo County Council.
